Day 03 of 30 Day Drawing Challenge

ok this was my favourite challenge of the 30 day drawing challenge so far…kinda pathetic that I get super excited about food but meh – what are ya gonna do? I love food. So the above are my absolute top favourite foods asides from any of my late grandma’s home cooked meals which is will always be number 1. NOONE can top that no matter how many michelin stars you have. Her food was legendary. But I digress, I wanted to talk about the foods in my silly little drawing -_- We have an idealised version of me with purple hair eating a bowl of delicious Ramen (oh that ramen should be hot and steamy :/) which is a type of japanese noodle soup using thin, kind of curly egg noodles…there is also Soba and Udon noodle soup but I prefer Ramen. Accompanying this soup is a BIG steamed bun called Da bao – this is really loved in my family and its usually filled with chicken, sausage, pork-belly hard boiled salty egg and a little bit of green — I am not vegetarian obviously. Right next to it is sticky rice with various other fillings (usually meat and chinese sausage) wrapped in bamboo leaf…in our dialect (Fukien) we refer to it as Ba Zhang — in mandarin its called something else…Both Da bao and Ba zhang can be found in my favourite meal of the day Dim Sum (this is a cantonese word for special breakfast which many chinese all over the world enjoy but the best dim sum can be found -according to many- in Vancouver and Singapore). In Germany, there is a misconception that dim sum refers to steamed buns filled with sweet bbq pork called char-siu bao…which is kinda dumb if you ask me, misinforming many people who want to try and learn about chinese food. Dim Sum and Yum Cha are meals which consist of many many delectible little dishes. I apologise for my long rant – I take the art of enjoying chinese food very seriously. Last but not least is a japanese rice ball called Onigiri, they come in many shapes and have different fillings, but I love the triangular one with sour plum the best. So thats it, I spent waaaaay too much time talking about food…time to get back to work. See you tomorrow!

Day 02: 30 Day Drawing Challenge

Today’s prompt: Favourite Animal

My current favourite animal looks like a chubby red coon’ cat fox but its actually the first cousin of the great panda — Ailurus fulgen, the red panda! Its an omniverous nocturnal cutey patootey who loves to play in the snow and be a cuddly lazy lump during the day :D I love these kinds of community art challenges as it gives every one of us the chance to be a part of something together, plus it gives us local artists the possiblity to get to know each other in a fun, relaxed, non serious kind of way. Thanks to Munich Artists for organising this! See you tomorrow! ps. If you would like to know what artists are up to in Munich, please visit us and subscribe on the munichartists page.

Starting today, I will be participating in a 30 draw challenge with BCA Munich Artists and posting the daily results here in WP :) The above sketch is hilarious, I think I made my eyes look a little bigger than it really is…don’t know what happened there hahaha! probably a result of the morning caffeine rush…

I have to keep this post super short. Here is a rundown of whats been happening around here:

I am now a full-time artist! Well at least for the entire summer… I took a well deserved 2 week break– catching up with friends I haven’t seen for a very long time, catching up with Nature, took long nocturnal walks with DK, enjoyed many bottles of delicious wine and just relaxed. Also, I am super motivated and working on a series of paintings to show August 8 to 21 at the Friday Gallery here in Munich. Above is a slideshow (for some a recap) of a few of the paintings you can expect to see at the show. More information on the show to follow…Ok my pretties, have to get back to the drawing board.

Friday the 13th

Posted on 13/06/2014

I couldn’t be luckier on this Friday the 13th. I am ridiculously giddy about the adventure that lies ahead of me this year. I have a few shows planned. One in August and one in November. Right now, I am supposed to be taking a break from all art — which isn’t proving to be easy. This morning, instead of doing what I had planned to do (weed out junk, clean the floors) I decided to start 2 new pieces for the August show instead. I am extremely excited about this show, as it will feature two excellent writers who will  both be reading from their most recent work. I won’t give away too much, but I will say this, it will not be a reading to miss! Just as I thought that the day couldn’t get any better, my better half expresses his undying love for me and treats me to a delicious basil-elderflower ice cream. I love Fridays and I love the number 13. No triskaidekaphobia here. These underdrawings are on beechwood panels. Tomorrow I will start the Grissaile layer (or dead layer) I’m thinking of doing this layer completely in Acrylic and thin glazing in Alkyds to save time. Before I go, I leave you with this piece of trivia: any month that begins on a sunday will have a friday the 13th.     WIP_06132014

I had a fairly productive week last I posted here. Such a productive week, that I had to reward myself this past week with a trip to the Biergarten accompanied by good friends, after-hours Singstar which included a visit from the cops, dancing the night away in a small kitchen, hours of adventures fighting the wrath of the white witch, a delicious indian feast, catching up with friends I hadn’t seen in a while and playing with their sweetest baby girl…well, I overdid it and now I am ill with a cruddy throat infection and a bad cold :/  But Fortune, being a very practical mistress, has also decided “no art show for you this week missy” so the BCA Munich Art show which was planned to run from the 30th of April to May the 4th has been postponed to another date some time in June :) Of course, I will be letting everyone know the exact details once I have them :) Until then, I am going to curl up in bed and attempt to read my newly acquired book The Cats of Tanglewood Forest (written by Charles de Lint and illustrated by one of the best, Charles Vess) in between dozing off.

Note on Image: please keep in mind that the lighting in my workspace today is not the best today…the original is a lot more subdued then this reproduced image.
